Alexandra Ridout has been crowned the second winner of the BBC Music Young Musician Jazz Award since its inception in 2014. The show runs parallel to the long-established classical music competition. At the finals that were held in Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, 17-year-old Alexandra Ridout from Aylesbury was voted the winner after the judges were impressed by her on-stage performance with the Gwilym Simcock Trio. Julian Jospeh claimed that she felt the way Alexandra played the blues gave it an importance and a relationship with the listeners that the judges felt tipped the odds in her favour. Simcock agreed quoting that her mush was honest and heart-felt in a way that could reach everyone.
