Percussionists Joe Parks, Tom Pritchard, Hristiyan Hristov and Matthew Brett have been beaten by 16-year-old Andrew Woolcock for a place in the BBC Young Musician semifinals. Woolcock, an avid percussion player, was later announced the winner of the percussion category final. The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff played host to the competition and was judged by Joby Burgess, Dobrinka Tabakova and Simone Rebello. Adrew Woolcock will have to compete and win against competitors of other categories pianist Jackie Campbell and saxophonist Jess Gillam and two so far unannounced category winners. He will then have a chance to perform at the BBC Young Musician finals.
